A safe journey starts
before collection.
Packaging must protect the contents from impacts and movement, and protect people, other shipments and vehicles from any risks posed by those contents.

Secure on the inside.
Securely sealed outer packaging
Use a sturdy cardboard box, envelope or container designed for transport. Stretch film alone, a paper bag or fabric is not suitable outer packaging.
Fill empty spaces
Fill gaps with paper, foam, bubble wrap or another suitable material so the items cannot move.
Separate fragile items
Keep glass, ceramics and other fragile items separate from one another. The contents must not touch the walls of the box.
Seal liquid containers tightly
Container caps must have protective seals. Put every container that could leak into a separate sealed bag. State the type of liquid on the outer packaging.
Place heavy shipments on a pallet
Prepare heavy or large loads on a suitably sized pallet or in a container that can be safely lifted with handling equipment.
Original manufacturer’s packaging
Undamaged manufacturer’s packaging designed for transporting that particular product is considered suitable.
02 / LIMITS
Shipment dimensions and weight.
Agree non-standard shipments in advance.
Smaller packages may be difficult to label, handle and transport safely.
Contact EcoTrip first for larger or unusual dimensions.
Shipments over 500 kg and their loading arrangements are agreed individually.
03 / BEFORE HANDOVER
Check four things
- 01The packaging is sealed
The contents cannot be accessed without damaging the outer packaging.
- 02The contents cannot move
Items do not shift or touch each other when the box is shaken.
- 03The shipment is labelled
The transport orientation is indicated, along with a ‘Fragile’ label where needed.
- 04The contents are permitted
The shipment contains no alcohol, tobacco, licensed excise goods, chemicals, solvents, narcotics or other prohibited items.
Restrictions also depend on the countries the shipment passes through. If unsure about a particular item, check with EcoTrip before booking.
