Moving without chaos: 7 decisions before departure

A clear removal plan reduces surprises, protects belongings and helps choose the team and vehicle and estimate working time.

A move is rarely just taking things from one address to another. It is a sequence of decisions: what to take, how to pack, what fits through the doors, when a vehicle can get in and what needs doing on arrival.

1. Separate what goes from what stays

Start your inventory with decisions, not boxes. Mark items to move, give away, sell or dispose of. You will avoid paying for unnecessary volume and packing things you will not need at the new place.

2. Photograph the largest items

A sofa, wardrobe, piano or large appliance determines the vehicle and team required. Photos and dimensions help predict whether dismantling, extra protection or carrying through narrow or difficult passages will be needed.

3. Check both addresses

Check the floor, lift, stairwell and door widths, courtyard access, parking and any time restrictions. The arrival address matters as much as the departure address; the tightest point often becomes apparent only during unloading.

4. Use a consistent labelling system

Label every box with the room name and a brief description of its contents. Mark fragile boxes on several sides. Numbers help confirm that every package arrived; colours help direct boxes to the right rooms.

5. Keep valuables and essentials separate

Pack documents, medicines, keys, chargers and first-day essentials in a separate bag. Keep it accessible so you can use it immediately when needed.

6. Agree additional work in advance

Carrying upstairs, dismantling furniture, packing materials, extra staff or removing old items affects working time. Mention these before the final quotation so the arriving team has the right plan and equipment.

7. Appoint a decision-maker

On moving day, one person should be able to say what goes first, where things belong and how to handle surprises. When several people give instructions at once, work slows down and mistakes become more likely.

LT–UK removal pricing depends on actual volume and weight. Removals in other European countries use a dedicated vehicle for the whole order. A good move starts with a clear plan, not physical strength. That makes it easier to choose the right vehicle, team and working time.
